Rev. Fr. John Maheras

Rev. Protopresbyter John G. Maheras, an ordained priest of the Greek Orthodox Church in America served parishes and as Ecumenical Officer for the Metropolis of Boston MA. He represented the Archdiocese in a diversity of venues and voiced the concerns of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and Orthodoxy. His involvement with the Council of Churches included active participation in environmental issues from an Orthodox perspective following the lead and guide of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. He thus articulated in a number of venues the crisis of climate change and its impact on the world. At various meetings, Fr. John expressed the relationship and connection between the steps we must take for the environment and what is occurring in our economic and social life. He has always highlighted our responsibility to protect the ecology planet as our oikos-house; hence his interest in ecology as a responsibility of all human beings.
