Outreach: Veterans Housewarming Project

“Operation Housewarming” was established several year ago to assist homeless veterans in their transition to independent living.  Today this ministry is thriving and growing stronger with each passing day due to the overwhelming support and generosity of all the Philoptochos chapters and parish communities at large.  That overwhelming response has enabled us to assemble and distribute housewarming baskets to VA Medical Centers throughout our Metropolis. The baskets contain all necessary items indicated in the “Wish List” (click here to see the wish list).

Monetary contributions or gift cards in lieu of the listed items are also welcome.  The funds will be used by the Metropolis Philoptochos to purchase items from the wish list. Please make checks payable to:  Metropolis of Boston Philoptochos.

Please forward ALL contributions to the Metropolis Office for dissemination on an on-going basis to the VA Healthcare System throughout New England.   Chapters located outside Massachusetts may coordinate delivery directly to the nearest VA by contacting the officials indicated in the enclosed “VA Contacts” listing (click here to see the contact listing)

Our brave service men and women have made great sacrifices to serve our country and to protect all of us. It is important to show them that we appreciate their sacrifice that we care and are eager to assist them as they return to civilian life and a new chapter in their lives.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

This important ministry which began in 2013 is growing everyday through the kindness and generosity of the Greek Orthodox Communities of the Metropolis of Boston.

Recently and more specifically on 6/21/16 the Metropolis once again provided twenty (20) large baskets to the veterans of the VA New England Healthcare System.  These baskets will help support a newly constructed (69 unit) housing community for veterans which is scheduled to open July 2016.

This was a collaborative effort among the Ladies Philoptochos Society and the parish communities at large.  The baskets were presented to the VA representatives by His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios and Fr. Theodore Barbas, Chancellor along with Georgia Lagadinos and Eleni Stamboulidis of the Metropolis the Ladies Philoptochos Society.

Thank you for your continued and unwavering support!!

In January, 2014,  the Metropolis Board Outreach Liasons Georgia Lagadinos and Eleni Stamboulidis delivered housewarming baskets to the Brockton VA Facility.  These baskets were assembled with items donated by Massachusetts Philoptochos Chapters to our new initiative.  This is an ongoing program with collections scheduled three times per year.  When the items are collected chapters should contact the Metropolis Philoptochos to arrange delivery to the Metropolis offices.  Please refer to the letter sent to your Chapter Presidents for complete instructions.  A link to the letter is above.

In 2013, the Metropolis of Boston Philoptochos Board adopted a new initiative to help the homeless Veterans.  Representatives from the Veterans Administration Facility in Bedford, Massachusetts presented the program to the local Clergy at a meeting at the Metropolis and then to the Philoptochos members at our Biennial Conference.

In September of 2013, a letter (click here to see the letter) and flyer (click here to see the pdf of the flyer) expaining the program were sent to the Chapter Presidents.  Listed are items that are needed for the Housewarming baskets.
