Metropolis of Boston Philoptochos
Minutes – November 2, 2013
President Levas opened the meeting of the Metropolis of Boston Philoptochos Board at 9:50, November 2, 2013 with the following in attendance: His Eminence Metropoltan Methodios, Georgia Lagadinos, Yannoula Ballassi, Philippa Condakes, Alexandra Coios Dimou, Kiki Feldmar, Stella Kazantzas, Elaine Kevgas, Eleni Pantelis, Bessie Papigiotis, Marianne Phelan, Susan Alvanos, Denise Reed, Diane Stamatopulos, Eleni Stamboulidis, Cleo Tsolas, Sandra Zervos and Elaine Zetes. Those absent were: Ellie Mavredakis, Irene Stefanakos, and Maria Tamvakoglou.
In the absence of Recording Secretary Tamvakoglou, Eleni Stamboulidis read the minutes of the previous meeting. Maryann Phelan moved the minutes seconded by Cleo Tsolas.
Recording Secretary Stramatopoulos read the correspondence which included a thank you from National Philoptochos for the $2280 we sent for aid to Greece and a request from the Hellenic Benevolent Women (Nursing Home) asking for the annual donation
There was no treasurer’s report.
President Levas distributed binders to all board members and reviewed.
The next order of business was a discussion for a fundraiser. The dates discussed were Saturday, November 15 or Sunday, November 16, 2014.
Committee Reports were reported next. Eleni Pantelis reported on Philoxenia House. She was pleased to announce that there are 21 guests currently and the house has been full since June. She announced that the Shriners are bringing children from Russia and Orthodox areas. They have asked if we can house some of the Greeks that they bring. Our volunteers drive the patients and families to their appointments and some even meet them at the airport upon their arrival. She explained about the 15 year old who is now at Spaulding after being at Mass General and some of the situations which have arisen with some Philoptochos Chapters and National regarding this case.
Pine Street Inn report was given by Georgia Lagadinos. It is a facility of 90 women. She will forward dates available for us to cook and serve at a later date.
First Vice President Lagadinos and Second Vice President Stamboulidis reported on the Homeless Veteran’s Housewarming Project, Posters and letters have been mailed to all our chapters in Massachusetts. They have selected three (3) dates of delivery: November 30, February 18, and June 24.
President Levas announced that the Lenten retreat will be held on Friday and Saturday , March 14 & 15, 2014.
The Christmas Party will be Sunday, December 15 at 5:00 P.M. at the Newton Marriott. Invitations have been ordered and will be mailed out in the next week
Two new ministries were discussed: Domestic Abuse and Bullying. Both are very important in today’s society and will be researched and discussed further.
