Ecumenical Prayer Service for Christian Unity 2017

On Saturday January 21st, 2017 His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios, joined by 30 clergymen of the Metropolis of Boston, attended an ecumenical prayer service for the Worldwide Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. The event was hosted at the Roman Catholic parish of The Holy Name in West Roxbury. The service was preceded by workshops on a large variety of topics some included Inter-Church Families, Worldwide Christian Persecution, and many more. The ladies of the Metropolis Philoptochos were part of the greeting committee and assisted in the lunch that was hosted. Many young adults from around the Metropolis came so they could, not only experience the event but to also assist on the logistics team.

The prayer service focused around the theme of “Unity and Reconciliation – The Love of Christ Compels Us” 2 Corinthians 5: 14-20. His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios and His Eminence Cardinal Sean O’Malley presided at the service along with Rev. Dr. David Wright -  Black Mission Alliance, Rev. Roberto Miranda – Congregacion Leon de Juda, Bishop David – Coptic Diocese of New York and New England, Pastor Dana Baker – Grace Chapel, Anthony Basamian – Presided of the Massachusetts Council of Churches, and Rev. Bary King – Symphony Church. The Saint Romanos the Melodist Byzantine Choir of Holy Cross, under the direction of Dr. Grammenos Karanos, also participated in the service by offering up Orthodoxy hymns. Over 800 Christians gathered within the church of the Holy Name to participate in the service.

At the conclusion of the prayer service, a missions and volunteering fair was held. The Orthodox organizations represented at the fair were Orthodox College Fellowship (OCF), IOCC (International Orthodox Christian Charities), FOCUS North America, and the Orthodox Christian Missions Committee (OCMC).
