Summary of Important Information regarding the Recently Passed Government CARES Act and Its Potential Significant Impact to our Parishes
His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios together with the Metropolis Finance Team presented to the Clergy and Parish Council leaders the results of an Archdiocesan comprehensive study of the CARES Act, which the Federal Government recently passed. The purpose of the study and the material that was prepared is to assist our communities in understanding the significant positive impact this act may potentially have on our parishes.
The Metropolis Finance Team together with the Archdiocesan National Finance Committee will continue to review the information in detail so that they will be able to field any questions that may arise regarding this Act and participation in it. Of particular interest is that low interest loans can be made available for use by parishes and the fact that that loan can possibly, in the future, be completely forgiven.
Metropolitan Methodios has asked each Parish Council to review this in detail with the Parish Finance Team, as well as professional accountants, CPAs and attorneys within each Community, in order for them to assist in accessing the full benefit of the CARES Act for our local parishes.
The Metropolis has set-up an online forum for parish leadership to submit questions to in order for our COVID-19 Executive Task Force to review and provide answers, as well as to network with other professionals that can help clarify in a manner most helpful to all of our Communities. While the Metropolis offers this open forum as a helpful tool, we also encourage each parish council to reference the official language of the CARES Act and consult the parish's legal professionals for definitive information.
