Each Fall as our Parishes prepare for elections in the local Communities, His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios invites all those who will be candidates for election, together with all ongoing Parish Council members, to attend one of nine District Parish Council Seminars that are sponsored by the Metropolis. Participation in this seminar is required by the Unified Parish Regulations of those whose name will appear on the election ballot. Metropolitan Methodios also strongly encourages all on-going Parish Council members to attend as well. The interaction between Parish Council members of several Communities is of great benefit.
Hundreds of present and potential Parish Council candidates from across the Metropolis gathered at various parishes to participate in the 2009 Parish Council Training Seminars entitled “Parish Development – UPR Overview & Raising Funds as a Component of Parish Life.” This unprecedented colloquium not only contained a brief overview of the UPR but gave insight and important information that parishes could utilize in their ongoing efforts in areas such as stewardship, capital campaigns, planned giving and strategic planning. As this seminar had an entirely new focus and content from previous years, all ongoing as well as future parish council members were urged to attend. As a result, many traveled to other districts so as not miss this great opportunity. The presenters, Jerry Minetos and Laura Paulus traveled from the Archdiocesan Office of Parish Development and bring nearly 30 years of collective consulting and fundraising experience to share with the participants. Attendees also enjoyed fellowship with parish council members from neighboring parishes and were thus able to network together by sharing ideas and experiences.
His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios expresses his gratitude to all of our dedicated laymen for their faithful commitment in service to our Holy Church through the ministry of the parish council, with the prayer that these seminars will be of much value and inspiration.
