We live in a noisy world. The sounds of commerce and industry are both loud and intrusive, the sounds of music are to be heard everywhere--almost to the point that they are inescapable. Automobiles, televisions, appliances and all of the other necessities of modern life seem to be noise makers as well as servants of the quality of life.
