On March 5, 2006 over 550 players, coaches, family and friends attended the Ninth Annual Metropolis Athletic Awards Dinner held at the St. Nectarios Parish in Roslindale, MA. The banquet allowed for a beautiful ending to a terrific season.

His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios highlighted the evening with his presentation of awards to individual players, teams and coaches. Some of the awards included the J.O.Y. Most Valuable Player (MVP) given to Demetrios Bakolas of St. Nectarios in Roslindale for leading his team to the championship. The G.O.Y.A. Girls and boys MVP awards went to Christina Scarlatos of the Annunciation Cathedral Parish in Boston and Billy Mallios of the St. George Parish in Lynn. Coach of the Year honors went to Mr. Dean Papaliodis (GOYA Boys) of the St. George Parish in Lynn, Mr. Jamie Nearhos (GOYA Girls) of the Taxiarchae Parish in Watertown and Mr. Bobby Michaelidis of the St. Nectarios Parish in Roslindale and Tony Kourepanos of the Taxiarchae Parish in Watertown (Co- J.O.Y.).

His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios shared his sentiments on how thankful he was for “ all the players, coaches, referees, volunteers, and family members”, for their hardwork, dedication and season long effort in making this not only an outstanding athletic league but also a ministry where families come together to form a community. We look forward to next year with the same enthusiasm as this past year!
