Dear Friend,

             One hundred and eighty nine years ago, the people of Greece rose up to proclaim their independence. Brave men and women stood for their values of freedom and democracy, and endured the sacrifice, pain and hardship necessary to defeat oppression and give rise to an independent Greek nation.  On Friday, April 23^rd their spirit, and all that has been achieved through that spirit, will be celebrated at the State House.  We are writing to invite you to that celebration.

             This year’s event will begin with a special reception outside the House of Representatives Chamber beginning at 12:30.  During the reception light refreshments will be served and Greek dance troops from around the state will perform a variety of dances.

             Following the reception, a commemoration ceremony will take place in the House Chamber at 1:45pm.  Metropolitan Methodios, Consul General Constantinos Orphanides and many elected officials and dignitaries from Greece will be participating in this year’s ceremony, which has historically involved many of the Commonwealth’s elected officials and leaders of the Greek-American community.

             Your presence at these events is important, and would be most welcomed by all involved.  We sincerely hope that you will be able to join us, and look forward to seeing you on the 23^rd.
