THEY ARE ALL WINNERS: Metropolitan Methodios with the participants of the 2011 Metropolis of Boston Oratorical Festival Finals.

His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios congratulated all participants in the 2011 Metropolis of Boston Oratorical Festival Finalist which were held in the Metropolis Center on saturday, May 14.  Every participant was a winner, said Metropolitan Methodios who praised the young people, their parents, their Church School Teachers and their Priests for encouraging them to participate in this annual event sponsored by the Department of Religious Education of the Archdiocese of America.

The eight finalists in the junior division and the eight finalists in the senior division gave wonderfully prepared presentations and all should be proud of their accomplishments.  The first place finalist in the junior division was Athanasia Kourtis from St. Demetrios Church in Weston, MA and the first place finalist in the senior division was Elissa Bowling from St. Athanasius Church in Arlington, MA.  They will represent the Metropolis of Boston at the National Oratorical Festival Finals in Houston, Texas on June 10-12, 2011.

The Greater Boston district held the district finals at St. Athanasius Church in Arlington, MA on Saturday, April 9, 2011.  The two junior division finalists were Athanasia Kourtis of Weston and Maria Nicolleta Nifakos of Haverhill and the two senior division finalists were Elissa Bowling and Alexander Eriksson, both of Arlington.  The Central / Western District held the district finals at St. Spyridon Cathedral in Worcester, MA on Saturday, March 19, 2011.  The two junior division finalists were Stephanie Poly of Worcester and Andrew Dasco of E. Longmeadow and the two senior division finalists were Aaron Lipp of Springfield and Christine Dasco of E. Longmeadow.  The Southern District held the district finals at St. Gregory Church in Mansfield, MA on Saturday, April 9, 2011.  The two junior division finalists were Eleni Giannopoulos of Newport and Alexi Frongillo of Mansfield and the two senior division finalists were Alexandra Reall of Cranston and Nikoletta Evangelatos of Brockton.  The Northern District held their district finals at St. Demetrios Church in Saco, ME on Saturday, April 9, 2011.  The two junior finalists were Elias Demetroulakos and Kalliope Karagianes of Andover and the two senior division finalists were Merilla Michael of Portland and Panos Coufos of Andover.

The Oratorical Festival provides our youth in the junior high school and in the senior high school the opportunity to research a topic related to their Faith and to prepare a three to four minute speech on that topic.  The Very Rev. Agathonikos Wilson, Pastor of the Holy Trinity Church in Concord, NH, chairs and coordinates the Metropolis of Boston Oratorical Festival Committee.
