Metropolis of Boston Clergy Brotherhood Annual Lenten Retreat "Clergy Wellness: Body, Mind, and Soul"

On Tuesday, March 5 – Wednesday March 6, 2019 His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios and Clergy Brotherhood of the Metropolis of Boston gathered at the Saint Methodios Faith and Heritage Center in Contoocook, NH for their annual Clergy Lenten Retreat. This year the retreat focused on clergy wellness, mind, body, and soul. The two guest speakers for the event were Dr. Nicholas Madias and Dr. Arthur Mourtzinos. Both doctors gave very informative presentations to the brotherhood meant to emphasize the importance of self-care. Both doctors were able to spend time answering different questions that the clergy had on the topic. The clergy also had time to enjoy worship and fellowship together in a retreat setting.

The biographies of the two doctors:

Dr. Nicholas Madias served as Chief Academic Officer of Caritas Christi Health Care. Dr. Madias has been practicing physician since 1976 at the New England Medical Center, where he has held various positions including Chief of the Division of Neurology, a position held from 1982-1999. Between 1999 and 2004. Dr. Madias served as Executive Academic Dean of Tufts University School of Medicine and Interim Dean for a number of years. Dr. Madias holds the Maurice S Segal, M.D. Professor of Medicine, Chair Department of Medicine, St. Elizabeth Medical Center, a major teaching hospital for Tufts University School of Medicine. A graduate of the Athens University School of Medicine, Dr. Madias was the recipient of a State Scholarship of Academic Excellence throughout his medical studies. He completed his training. In Internal Medicine at Tufts Medical Center and completed a clinical and research fellowship in Nephrology at Tufts-New England Medical Center. He has served as an Established Investigator of the American Heart Association, and a member of the Internal Medicine and Nephrology Boards of the American Board of Internal Medicine. His research studies have been funded by the National Institute of Health, the American Heart Association and various foundations. Dr. Madias is the author of 65 original publications and over 100 reviews, book chapters. He is recipient of many awards and honors, several Citations Excellence in Teaching and Distinguished Faculty awards. National and international. Dr. Madias, resides in Newton, MA. With his wife Ourania, a child and adolescent psychiatrist.

Dr. Arthur P Mourtzinos is a specialist in Surgery and Urology at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts. He studied at the Boston University School of Medicine and completed his residencies at the Lahey Clinic and at the Massachusetts General Hospital for General Surgery. He completed his fellowship at the University of California Medical Center Surgery and Urology. Dr. Mourtzinos is an Assistant Professor of Urology at Tufts University School of Medicine.
