Olympics at the Metropolis of Boston Summer Camp

The Metropolis of Boston Camp, in Contoocook, NH was pleased to host Mr. Jim Chambares, for an Olympics activity during their fourth session. Mr. Chambares, brother of Fr. Peter Chambares, spent two days at the St. Methodios Faith and Heritage Center, teaching the oldest campers, ages 16-18, about various Olympic events. With the main focus of the MBC program being faith, fellowship, and fun, there is still a large connection with our Greek heritage. Such pride and excitement was evident as the children were exposed to activities first popularized by the original Olympic Games in Greece. The first day was a hands-on training involving five different field events: Hammer, Shot Put, Discus, Javelin, and Weights. The second day, the campers were broken up in half and competed against each other, earning their own points and coming together collectively as a team. This lesson on cooperation, hard work, and patience served as a wonderful experience for the campers and staff alike.
