In 2010, the Rev. Dr. Demetrios Tonias, who serves as an Ecumenical Officer of the Metropolis of Boston, presented a paper at a World Council of Churches conference held in Constantinople on the topic of "Christian Self-Understanding in the Jewish Context." Fr. Demetri, who represents His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios on issues concerning the Orthodox Christian-Jewish dialogue, spoke on the Orthodox Christian view of the Church as New Israel and the ways in which the Orthodox Church can play an important role in the contemporary dialogue. The Greek Independence Day Parade is a national celebration in the United States of America. Greek Americans across US cities organize Greek parades to celebrate the independence of Greece from the Ottoman Empire in 1821. In Boston, proud Greek-Americans from all over New England lined Boylston Street and joined in on the fun to celebrate their heritage which featured floats, marching bands and colorful ethnic costumes.

On April 2-3, 2013 His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios hosted the annual two-day Lenten retreat for the clergy of the Metropolis of Boston at the St. Methodios Faith and Heritage Center in Contoocook, New Hampshire. His Eminence invited guest speaker Fr. Spencer Kezios to address the topic, "The Priest as: Pastor, Liturgist, and Preacher".

The Greek American Community of New England is saddened to learn that Consul General Ilias Fotopoulos will be leaving shortly to assume new responsibilities. As you may know, he was recently promoted to the rank of Ambassador and assigned to the Embassy of Greece in Montenegro. I cordially invite you to a reception in his honor which will be held on Saturday April 13, 2013 at the Maliotis Cultural Center 50 Goddard Avenue in Brookline (on the campus of Hellenic College) between 7:00-9:00p.m. Please join me in honoring our mutual friend.

His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios ordained Peter Leneweaver to the Holy Diaconate on Sunday, March 24 at the Annunciation Cathedral in Boston, Massachusetts. Deacon Peter, 39, was born in Chicago, Illinois and grew up in Dallas Texas. He attended Hellenic College from 1994-1997 and graduated from the University of Texas in 1999. He completed the Archdiocese Diaconate Program in 2012. He currently resides in Weymouth, Massachusetts with his wife Kathy of 9 years. They have two beautiful daughters, Zoe who is 8 and Mia who is 6. AXIOS Deacon Peter!

On Wednesday evening March 20, 2013, Metropolitan Methodios and several clergy from the Metropolis of Boston joined together with the District 5 parishes at the St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts to join in prayer and begin the Lenten journey together.

The Metropolis of Boston Philoptochos Board is proud to present their 3rd Annual Lenten Retreat at the St. Methodios Faith and Heritage Center on March 29 - 30, 2013. On Saturday morning we will be having a presentation by Kyriaki Fitzgerald, M.Div., Ph.D..

This Springs Conference will be held April 5 - 6 at the St. Methodios Faith and Heritage Center in Contoocook, NH. The Keynote Speaker is Presvytera Georget Photos who is the Author of a 6 volume Series "Let Us Live Orthodoxy" which is about to be published by the Department of Religious Education.

March 18 marks the beginning of the Great Lent. It is known in Greek as 'Kathara Deftera' or Clean Monday. The word kathara is closely related to catharsis or cleaning.

Tomorrow, known in Greek as Kathara Deftera or Clean Monday, Orthodox Christians begin a spiritual journey called the Great Lent. It is a time of promise, of expectancy and of renewal. Tomorrow, we begin fasting, we attend colorful worship services and keep customs honored for many centuries by Orthodox Christian families.

With over 100 campers and 50 staff gathering from all over New England at our Campsite in the pristine woods of New Hampshire, we had a wonderful weekend of Fun, Faith and Fellowship together. Our weekend was focused on disconnecting, rejuvenating and preparing for our upcoming Lenten Journey. We were constantly reminded of St. Timothy's words that encourages to use our youth and be examples for the world around us. MBC Family Winter Camp 2013

MBC hosted over 30 families from across New England that came together to retreat and connect with not only each other but also other families that share their same faith. Having a visit from His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios and Methropolitan Varnavas of Theossoloniki, the weekend was truly a fruitful experience. One of the greatest highlights was Saturday Nights "Poetry Slam" where families shared thoughts and feelings about what forgiveness means to them. On Sunday, March 3rd, Metropolitan Methodios together with Metropolitan Barnabas of Greece celebrated the Divine LIturgy at. St. Nektarios Church in Roslindale, Massachusetts. After the Divine Liturgy, a warm reception hosted by the parish was enjoyed by all.

Metropolitan Methodios is happy to announce the annual Greek Independence Day Parade to be held on Sunday, April 7, 2013.

Metropolitan Barnabas of Neapolis, Greece, together with Metropolitan Methodios offered a live interview on Grecian Echoes radio program on the current status of the crisis in Greece and the Church's active outreach to feed and cloth over 5,000 people each day in the Metropolis of Neapolis, Greece, outside of Thessaloniki.

The Metropolis of Boston and the AJC Boston joined together to host an evening of history, culture, food and wine as part of the Greek American-Jewish American community exchange.

The Church of the Annunciation to the Theotokos in the neighborhood of Evosmos is under the spiritual guidance of His Eminence Barnabas of Neapolis and Stavroupolis. Each day this parish provides 350 meals to those in need in their local area.

Happy New Year! I pray you are well. I write to you on behalf of His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios to remind you of the upcoming District 2 Parish Leadership Development Seminar, which will be held on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 - St. Philip Church in Nashua, NH beginning at 6:30 pm.

On December 19, 2012 His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios together with Georgia Lagadinos and Eleni Stamboulidis of the Metropolis Philoptochos Board visited the largest homeless veterans program in New England located at the VA Medical Center in Bedford, Massachusetts.

His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios visited the parish of St. Nektarios in Roslindale on January 1st and presided at the Divine Liturgy for the Feast Day of St. Basil the Great with the Rev. Vasilios Bebis, who celebrated his Name Day, the V. Rev. Panteleimon Manousakis and the Rev. George Papademetriou. Following the Divine Liturgy a warm reception was hosted and the traditional Vasilopita was cut.

On Sunday, December 23, Metropolitan Methodios kindly requests every community in our Metropolis to provide our faithful the opportunity to make a contribution to relieve the suffering of brethren both here and in Greece.

Students from the Hellenic Academy visited the Philoxenia House Monday, December 17, 2012.

Today our Nation mourns the tragic loss of twenty-six people, including 20 children between the ages of 5-10 years old, who were killed by a masked gunman in a bloody rampage at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

His Eminence Metroplitan Methodios and members of the The Hellenic Womenen's Club visited the families of the Philoxenia House on Saturday, December 1, 2012. The Hellenic Women's Club have been visiting and supporting the Philoxenia House for several years.

The Great Vesper Service was celebrated on the evening of November 29, 2012 at the St. Andrew Cathedral Chapel on the grounds of the Metropolis of Boston.

His Eminence, Metropolitan Methodios celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church in Braintree, Massachusetts on Sunday, November 25. Celebrating with Metropolitan Methodios were the Rev. Philippe Mousis, Rev. Alkiviadis Calivas and Deacon Andreas MacLean.

The executive board of the Parish Nurse Ministry met on November 15, at the Boston Metropolis for a sharing and support meeting.

On November 14, 2012, the Metropolis of Boston held it’s District 9 Parish Leadership Development Seminar at the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Church in Somerville. The 2012-13 theme, Transforming Parish Leadership/Developing Emerging Leaders, featured keynote speaker Theo Nicolakis, Chief Information Officer for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.

On Saturday, November 10, DOXA held a wonderful seminar at the St. Athanasius Church in Arlington. The mission of DOXA is to provide religious educators the opportunity to grow as Orthodox Christian and fulfill their catechetical ministry in the life of the church as they teach the Good News of Christ and the doctrines and traditions of Orthodoxy. The theme for the seminar was ‘The Role of Parents and Teachers in Religious Education’. Teachers and parents throughout the Metropolis of Boston enjoyed a day of discussions, developmental sessions and fellowship. The next DOXA seminar will be held in April (further information will be forthcoming).

Sadly, Sunday has lost its significance in our society, becoming less of a day of worship of almighty God and more like any ordinary work day. This especially affects our young people who are obligated to attend sports events on Sunday mornings rather than attend the Divine Liturgy. At my request, this sad reality and its ramifications were discussed at the recent meeting of the Orthodox-Roman Catholic Consultation. After lengthy discussion, the following joint statement was issued. I ask you to read it carefully and approach civic, business and school authorities in your community to schedule sports events after 12 noon so that our young people may worship together with their families on Sunday mornings.

Earlier this year, the College of the Holy Cross, the oldest Catholic College in New England, was preparing to inaugurate Fr. Philip Boroughs, S.J. as its 32nd President.

NEW YORK – In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America has expressed the concern, prayers and care of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America for the life, safety and well being of the millions of people in the affected areas of the northeastern United States.

Fr. Peter Katopis of Sts. Constantine and Helen Church in Chicopee, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on October 15, 2012. Here is the Eulogy read at his funeral by Fr. Harry Vulopas.

Tuesday, October 23, 2012 - The Metropolis of Boston kicked off its third annual Parish Leadership Development Seminar series at the Holy Trinity Church in Fitchburg to an enthusiastic and energetic crowd.

On October 9, 2012 Metropolitan Methodios hosted Boston area religious leaders at the Metropolis to discuss the issue of Physician Assisted Suicide. Below are his opening remarks. His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios ordained Fr. George Kouzelis to the Holy Priesthood on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at the St. Spyridon Cathedral in Worcester, Massachusetts. Fr. George has been assigned to the St. Spyridon parish as the associate priest. Fr. Dean Paleologos, Proistamenos of St. Spyridon Cathedral along with members of the community celebrated with a reception honoring this joyous event for Fr. George and his wife, Presbytera Stavroula. On Saturday, September 29, 2012 Metropolitan Methodios participated in the Orthodox Chapel and Garden's blessing of the foundation and ground breaking ceremony. Also, participating in the ceremony were His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion (First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad) and His Grace Bishop John Abdalah (Antiochian Orthodox Diocese of Worcester and New England).
