clergy-portrait

Fr. Vassilios Bebis was born in Greece in 1968 and was married to Presbytera Chrysoula Kourkounti in 1992. He pursued theological studies at the Higher Ecclesiastical Academy of Athens, Hellenic College, and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, MA. He further advanced his academic formation at Boston University, the University of Liverpool (UK), and the Greenwich School of Theology (UK), earning graduate, and doctoral degrees. His Orthodox doctoral degree was conferred by the School of Theology at the University of Thessaloniki.

Fr. Bebis was ordained to the diaconate on January 1, 1994, and to the priesthood on January 15, 1995, by His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios of Boston. He has served the Greek Orthodox communities of Holy Trinity in Concord, NH; Dormition of the Virgin Mary in Somerville, MA; and St. Nectarios in Roslindale, MA. He currently serves as the presiding priest at the parish of Saints Constantine and Helen in Cambridge, MA.

Deeply committed to the cause of Christian unity and interfaith dialogue, Fr. Bebis is actively involved in the ecumenical movement. He is an affiliated faculty member of the Centro Pro Unione in Rome, a bureau member of the Committee of Religious NGOs at the United Nations, a member of the Advisory Committee of the Huffington Ecumenical Institute of Hellenic College–Holy Cross, and a member of the Harvard University Chaplains.

Fr. Bebis is the author of two theological works published in Greece by Armos Publications: The Pneumatology of St. Irenaeus of Lyons and Theotokos and Ecofeminism. A third volume, Theologika Analekta, is currently in publication. His writings focus on the broader theological “dialogue of meaning,” engaging both the patristic tradition and contemporary theological discourse.
