Greek Education

 

The first meeting of the new school year 2019 – 2020, took place on Saturday, November 10th at 2:30pm at the Metropolis of Boston located at 162 Goddard Ave Brookline. His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios participated in the meeting as well as Fr. Nicholas Pelekoudas, Director of Greek education of the Metropolis office. Many teachers also participated from various Greek Schools. The President, Kiki Kolokithas welcomed all and handed out the calendar of events for the new school year. On January 12th, 2019, the annual Vasilopita cutting and  luncheon took place, graciously offered by His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios. About 50 teachers attended. It was an absolutely delightful afternoon. On  January 27th, 2019, the celebration of the Three Hierarchs and the Greek Letters took place at the Maliotis Cultural Center, where Greek school students from the various parishes celebrated with poems, songs and Greek dances. The program was very successful and the Maliotis Center was filled to capacity. On March 9th, 2019, a meeting was held and an assessment of the previous programs/events was made. His Eminence and Fr. Nicholas Pelekoudas participated. On June 1st,2019, the Metropolis Greek School Graduation  took place at the Maliotis Cultural Center. At this event, His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios honored all the graduates of the Greek schools of the Metropolis of Boston by presenting them with a certificate and a gift.

        Saturday January 4th, 2020 at 2:30pm – Vasilopita cutting and Luncheon    

        Sunday January 26th, 2020 at 3:00pm – Celebration of the Three Hierarchs and The Greek Letters         

        Saturday March 7th, 2020 at 2:30pm – Meeting

        Saturday April 25th, 2020 at 2:30pm – Paschal luncheon

        Saturday June 6th, 2020 at 3:00pm – Metropolis Graduation

The Greek Education Committee is charged with the responsibility of assisting parishes in establishing and sustaining a Greek studies Program that comprises the teaching of the Modern Greek Language, Greek History and Culture, as well as the teaching of the Greek Orthodox Faith and worship.  The committee organizes several Metropolis wide events throughout the year held at the Maliotis Cultural Center, including the OXI Day Program, the Greek Letters Celebration, and Graduation Day.  The Metropolis also hosts a Christmas and Paschal Luncheon each year for the Greek School teachers.
