Overcoming supply shortages and ensuring safety precautions, The Home for Little Wanderers, the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Boston, and St. Athanasius The Great Greek Orthodox Church continued their 25 year partnership to pack over 425 turkey dinner kits for families in need.

For over 25 years, St. Athanasius The Great has donated turkeys and coordinated supplies for The Home’s annual turkey drive. The Home’s traditional produce suppliers were unable to secure donations for “the fixings” this year due to shortages resulting from the pandemic, but the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Boston stepped in to ensure The Home’s families don’t go without this year. The Metropolis also offered the use of its 9,000 square foot hall at the Cathedral Center to ensure proper social distancing.

On November 24, 2020, volunteers received the donations from corporate donors, like Market Basket, and many other faithful individuals, sorted the items, and assembled them into dinner kits in the morning. In the afternoon, The Home’s program personnel picked up the kits and delivered them to families in need across the Greater Boston area.

Furthermore, many young adults from the St. Athanasius parish and other parishes of the Metropolis assisted both by helping with the assembly and raising over $1,500 for this cause. Please click on this link below to view the WCVB Newscenter 5's story on the event!
