A Joyful Pastoral Visit to St. George in Bangor, Maine

Metropolitan Methodios visited St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Bangor, Maine—the parish located farthest from our Metropolis Center.

Upon his arrival, His Eminence was warmly greeted by the devoted members of the Parish Council, parish council president Lee Speronis and their presiding priest, Rev. Fr. Leo Schefe. The community, filled with anticipation and joy, welcomed their spiritual shepherd with open hearts.

In his pastoral message, Metropolitan Methodios commended the faithful of Bangor for their commitment to the life of the Church. He spoke of the deep spiritual bonds that unite all the parishes of our Metropolis, regardless of geographical distance, and encouraged the parish to continue nurturing its vibrant worship and fellowship.

As part of this special occasion, His Eminence bestowed upon Fr. Leo Schefe the offikion of Protopresbyter, recognizing his dedicated service, pastoral care, and devotion to Christ’s flock in Bangor and beyond. The honor was received with heartfelt joy by both Fr. Leo and the entire parish family.

Following the Divine Liturgy, the Metropolitan joined the faithful for a time of fellowship, during which parishioners expressed their gratitude for his visit and the inspiration it brought to their community.

This visit was a reminder that the unity of the Church is not measured by miles, but by the love of Christ that binds us together. The Metropolis celebrates the steadfast faith of St. George and looks forward to many more occasions to gather in prayer and fellowship with our brothers and sisters in Bangor.
