Metropolis of Boston Camp Winter Camp Session 2
From February 15-17, the Metropolis of Boston Camp hosted the second of two Winter Camp sessions, marking the official start of the 2025 camping season. Due to the program's growth over the past two years, two GOYA Winter Camp sessions were necessary to accommodate nearly 300 young adult staff members and campers. Over the course of several days, participants engaged in divine services and catechetical sessions while also enjoying a variety of activities both indoors and outdoors. Although heavy snowfall prevented the traditional ski trip, the camp staff quickly organized a reimagined Winter Olympics, making use of the fresh snow and snowbanks that were taller than most campers.
As always, His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios joined the campers and staff to share in the weekend's fellowship. Arriving Saturday afternoon, His Eminence engaged in conversations with staff and campers during dinner and breakfast, following the Divine Liturgy on Sunday. His deep love for the services and music of the Orthodox Church was evident as he joyfully witnessed dozens of young campers participating at the chanter stand. He encouraged them to become more involved in the liturgical life of their parishes, inspired by the beautiful display of faith at camp. Father Alexander Orphanos of St. George Church in Lynn, MA, and Deacon Andrew Bushell joined His Eminence in the service, which was moving for many, especially with the homily on the day's Gospel of the Prodigal Son.
As the camp session concluded, graduating high school seniors were invited to join the camp's staff for the upcoming summer, which will celebrate the camp's 35th anniversary. The Summer of 2024 was the camp’s busiest in over a decade, and the camp anticipates record-breaking enrollment in the Summer of 2025. Registration opens on March 11th at 8 p.m. Learn more at metropolisofbostoncamp.org.
