Metropolis of Boston Clergy Gather for Annual Lenten Retreat
The clergy of the Metropolis of Boston gathered at the St. Methodios Faith and Heritage Center for their annual two-day Clergy Lenten Retreat. This annual tradition brought together clergy from across New England and brother clergy from the Antiochian Diocese of Worcester and New England for a time of spiritual renewal, fellowship, and preparation for the celebration of Pascha.
During the retreat, the clergy had the opportunity to engage in one-on-one meetings with His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios, their spiritual father. These meetings provided an intimate space for personal reflection and guidance as they prepared for the holiest season of the Church year. Metropolitan Methodios expressed his joy in convening this retreat, underscoring the importance of unity and mutual support among the clergy.
The retreat featured insightful presentations from clergy members of the Metropolis. Fr. George Parsenios delivered a thought-provoking talk on "Paul the Pastor." He explored the Apostle Paul’s pastoral approach, particularly his statement, "I have become all things to all men." Fr. George explained that Paul’s words reflect a pastoral method centered on understanding and addressing the unique needs of each individual, much like a physician diagnosing a patient before prescribing treatment. His discussion encouraged clergy to apply these principles in their own ministries.
Fr. Luke Veronis presented on "Archbishop Anastasios: A Model of Missionary Work and Peacemaking." He highlighted the remarkable contributions of Archbishop Anastasios of Albania, one of the most influential figures in Orthodoxy over the past century. Fr. Luke reflected on the Archbishop’s role as a brilliant theologian, a tireless advocate for peace, and a transformative missionary, offering valuable lessons for clergy in their own spiritual and pastoral missions.
Fr. Philip Zymaris spoke on the history of the Pre-Sanctified Liturgy, providing a theological and liturgical analysis that enriched the clergy’s understanding of this deeply service observed during Great Lent.
In addition to the spiritual and theological discussions, the clergy had the opportunity to tour the gymnasium and indoor field house currently under construction at the retreat center. This new facility is expected to enhance future retreats, youth programs, and community events.
The retreat reaffirmed the strong bonds among the clergy of the Metropolis, providing them with renewed inspiration as they continue their pastoral ministries in their respective communities. As they departed from the retreat, the clergy left with a strengthened commitment to their ministry and a deepened sense of brotherhood as they journey towards Pascha.
