Metropolitan Methodios Attends Celebration of OXI Day at the Consulate of Greece in Boston

Boston, MA – October 26, 2025 – Metropolitan Methodios attended the OXI Day celebration hosted at the Consulate of Greece in Boston. The event brought together members of the Greek-American community, who filled the Consulate with faith, heritage, and patriotism.
The celebration, organized by Symeon Tegos, Consul General of Greece in Boston, honored the historic “OXI Day,” commemorating Greece’s courageous stand for freedom and dignity on October 28, 1940. Metropolitan Methodios offered heartfelt remarks, reflecting on the enduring significance of the day and the bond between faith, homeland, and community. His Eminence expressed his gratitude to the Consul General for his hospitality and for his ongoing efforts to unite and uplift the Hellenic community of New England.
The program featured presentations by children from parish Greek School programs across the Metropolis of Boston, who recited poems and sang songs in honor of the heroes of 1940. Their participation brought pride to all in attendance, symbolizing the connection between generations of Greek Americans and their ancestral homeland.
Among the clergy present were Fr. Athanasios Nenes of the Taxiarchae Church in Watertown, Fr. Alex Orphanos of St. George Church in Lynn, and the V. Rev. Bartholomew Mercado, representing Hellenic College Holy Cross.
His Eminence, once again, extended his warm appreciation to Consul General Symeon Tegos and to all who contributed to this memorable event, which celebrated the unity of faith and heritage that continues to strengthen the Hellenic Orthodox community.
