Weston GOYA Brings Faith in Action to Philoxenia House with Spring Service Project
The Weston GOYA participated in a service project at the Philoxenia House of the Metropolis to support its mission of hospitality.
Led by Rania and Manny Makkas, alongside their children and a devoted group of fellow GOYAns and parents, the group rolled up their sleeves and got to work. Their day of service included planting new flowers, laying fresh mulch, and cleaning the surrounding yard—bringing renewed life and beauty to the grounds of the Philoxenia House.
Their generosity extended beyond physical labor. At a recent GOYA dance, the group collected donations specifically for the Philoxenia House which they personally delivered during their visit. The contributions will support the home’s ongoing mission of providing comfort and care to patients and families receiving medical treatment in the Boston area.
During their visit, the GOYAns also received a tour of the Philoxenia House and participated in a brief presentation about its history and mission. This helped deepen the youth's appreciation for the role of hospitality within the Orthodox Christian tradition and the real-world impact of their service.
The visit reflected the spirit of “philoxenia”—the love of strangers—that lies at the heart of the house’s name and purpose. It also highlighted how the next generation is being formed not only in faith but in service. `With this joyful day of work and giving, The Weston GOYA set a shining example of community engagement and Orthodox Christian love in action.
