Friday, March 06, 2026

Metropolitan Methodios of Boston presided over the Service of the Akathist Hymn to the Most Holy Theotokos at St. George Church in Lynn, MA, bringing together clergy and faithful for a moving evening of prayer during the Lenten season. Also present for the service were members of the Board of the National Presbyteres, who had gathered at the parish in Lynn for their national board meeting over the weekend. His Grace Bishop Anthony was also in attendance, joining in the prayerful observance of the service. Metropolitan Methodios expressed his gratitude to the parish community for their warm hospitality and offered special thanks to the parish priest, Fr. Alex Orphanos, for his dedicated ministry and the continued growth and vitality of the parish.
In his sermon, Metropolitan Methodios reflected on the profound spiritual message of the Akathist Hymn and the example of the Virgin Mary as the model of true Christian life. He spoke about the aimlessness and spiritual confusion that often characterize modern society, noting that many pursue wealth, success, and pleasure without discovering true fulfillment. In contrast, he pointed to the Theotokos as the perfect example of freedom through surrender to God’s will. Through her faithful “yes” to God, she revealed the path to true dignity, purpose, and holiness. The Metropolitan reminded the faithful that the Church presents the Virgin Mary during the Akathist as a beacon of hope and reconciliation, guiding all people to rediscover the meaning of Christian life and to embrace the freedom that comes through devotion to Christ.
