Rev. Fr. Harry Providakes

Fr. Harry Providakes was born and raised in Worcester, MA. He attended Hellenic College and Holy Cross School of Theology and graduated from both. He met his wife, Jean, in Cambridge, MA and was married in June 1977. He was ordained a deacon in October 1977 at his home parish of St. Spyridon's Worcester, MA by His Eminence Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago. He was then ordained a priest in May 1978 at the Holy Cross Chapel by the late Archbishop Iakovos of America.

His first assignment was as an assistant priest at St. Nicholas in St. Louis, Missouri. for 2 years. During that time his son was born. From there he served various parishes in Pennsylvania and later returned to Massachusetts where he served three parishes and now serves at St. George in Dartmouth.

In 1992, Fr. Harry was assigned, by his Eminence Metropolitan Methodios, as a full time State Chaplin for 13 years. He worked at state hospitals and prisons. During that time he was appointed by four Governors over 13 years as Chairman of the Governors Committee for State Chaplains in all state institutions. He completed 5 years of Clinical Pastoral Educations Programs at St. Elizabeth's and Massachusetts General Hospitals to supervisory status.

He was an adjunct professor at Holy Cross for10 years in the Field Education Program teaching Hospital Ministry. He now works as a substance abuse clinician for the past 15 years at the senior level. This is his 38th year of service as an ordained priest. Fr. Harry and Presbytera Jean have lived in Lynnfield, MA for the past 25 years.
